Everyone is excited when they start a road trip – you have your tunes, your snacks, your friends, you are excited about the destination and you take off and enjoy the trip. Well, this isn’t a road trip, this is a journey.

A journey is your whole life, friends come and go, sometimes you feel like turning back, you run out of gas and snacks. Sometimes you forget why you started in the first place and even where you are headed. People who have been successful in their journeys over time have a few things in common: They know where and why they want to go, they know where they are, they make a plan, they prepare, and they just do it;)

Some food for thought as you get started (or restarted) on your journey. Whether you are a beginner or a badass, it’s good to take a step back sometimes and think about your action plan. Don’t get me wrong – I am ALL about action. AND I have learned that action based on a solid foundation of planning is far more effective and less painful.

Where are you headed and WHY are you headed there?

(text here about what FIRE is and why people want it)

You’re reading my blog, so I’m guessing that you’re taking a step toward financial independence. Take time to think what you really want to do with your life. Do you want to be debt-free? Do you want to be your own boss – to take over your life? If your answer to these is ‘yes’, then I would like to congratulate you for having even the slightest motivation to have a better life. Good job!

Where are you now?

(text here about getting clear on financial situation – maybe recommend the Mint app? I also think this is place to talk about values – we could link to another website that helps people do values work.)

How are your bills as of the moment — are they getting paid on time? If you have the 9-5 job, are you saving enough? Oh, so many questions that need an answer! But believe me, guarding these day to day situations will give you CLARITY on what you have and what you might further need in order to be financially independent.

What’s your plan?

If you now have a clear realization of where you’re at right now (savings, debts, budgeting), then it’s time to have a WORKABLE plan. I tell you… It’s a matter of having enough savings (usually 20% of what you’re earning). But how? There are two ways: be frugal or do side hustles. Or you could do both!

Your journey is about to start. This is NOT going to be easy but it’s DOABLE and WORTH IT. Being mentally ready to create yourself a better life is the key — remember, “Where the mind goes, the body will follow”. Keep your eye on ball, the ball here is the financial freedom you’ve been dreaming of. Start your engine, it’ll be an enjoyable ride!

Time to GO!
